Julio Chaves (AKA Fominha), Born in October 1980 in Recife (Brazil), moved to Australia with his family in 1989 and lived in Byron Bay before moving to Sydney in March 2000.

Since the early age of 12 he has practised Martial Arts, such as Hapkido, Muay Thai Kickboxing, and Aikido.

In November 1998 Fominha developed a fascination for the art of Capoeira and decided to dedicate himself to this exciting Art form.

Shortly after he moved to Sydney to join an acting academy (AADA) and decided to continue his training of Capoeira with Group Capoeira Brasil Mestre Peixe’s Team. Since March 2000, Fominha has been training with Group Capoeira Brasil in Australia, Los Angeles, New Caledonia and Brazil, and participated in many workshops conducted by great Mestres of Capoeira throughout the world.

Still very young in the art form of Capoeira but always with an open mind on the abundent learning of Capoeira Fominha has dedicated his life to the education and philosophy of Capoeira.

Since his journey as an instructor began for Group Capoeira Brasil he has conducted Workshops at Capoeira Academies, Universities, Primary and High Schools, Congress/Events and the Co - Director of International College of Capoeira.

Fominha has been featured on Channel 10, Channel 9, Channel 7, SBS Television, Fox 8, Lifestyle Channel, ABC Television and was also an actor in “Rio Rhythms” a play about Capoeira and the Brazilian slaves.

Since 2006, Fominha has held a green belt which is an instructor level in Group Capoeira Brasil.

In 2010, Fominha was granted by Mestre Peixe and Mestre Boneco his Purple Cord (Professor Level of Capoeira within Grupo Capoeira Brasil) at Mestre Peixe 14th International Capoeira Festival Sydney - Darling Harbour.
